NITWOG Published on:2024-05-01

In the year 1886, the workers’ movement started from the city of Chicago, USA, with the slogan of ‘Eight hours of work, eight hours of rest and eight hours of recreation’. There is a history of a bomb explosion in the Hay Market in Chicago during the movement. Although it was not revealed who caused the bomb blast, the police severely suppressed the protesting workers

7 people lost their lives due to police firing and countless workers were injured. Finally, the workers’ movement was successful. International Workers’ Day is celebrated on May 1 to commemorate the victory of the workers’ movement.

In 1889, the World Labor Organization and the meeting of workers’leaders held in Paris, France, decided to celebrate the International Workers’ Day on the same day all over the world. Since then, every year since 1890, International Labor Day has been celebrated on May 1st of the English month.

The workers of the world have been taking this day as a workers festival. Even in Nepal, various workers’ organisations celebrate this day by holding various programs. In the history of Nepal, this day started to be celebrated with the workers movement in Biratnagar in 2007. NITWOG has been celebrating the International Labor Day regularly since its inception.

We would like to warmly wish Happy 135th International Workers Day 2024!!!
