The Nepal Independent Tourism Workers’ Guild (NITWOG), the only one non-political tourism workers’ trade union among the various workers’ unions active in Nepal’s tourism sector. NITWOG has launched a “Let’s Resume Tourism” campaign.
The campaign is a one-day hiking route within the Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park north of Kathmandu on August 14, 2021. Due to the Instability of the tourism industry for a long time, the life of the tourism workers is in disarray. The main objective of the campaign is to ease the livelihood of the tourism workers by reviving the stalled tourism industry, said Ram Kaji Prayas president of NITWOG.
It started from Muhanpokhari of Budhanilkantha at 8 am on August 14, 2021 AD. The expedition reached Nagigumba, Bagdhar, the mouth of the Bagmati River, and reached Shivpuri hill, 2732 m above sea level. “Resume Tourism” Campaigners in Shivpuri displayed posters with slogans such as “Don’t Kill Tourism & Workers, We Want to Live, We Need to Work for Living, Respect our Skill & Knowledge, No More Quarantine, Resume Tourism Resume our Living” Were.
We asked whether the posters with such slogans were displayed in places like the Ministry of Tourism, Department or Nepal Tourism Board, Chairman Prayas said, “Where have we entered the forest? We are right now our workplace, you may think it is a forest, but the Trekking/Hiking/Heritage site/jungle safari site/River route is the workplace of ordinary tourism workers and solidarity.
