Who are we

Nepal Independent Tourism Workers’ Guild (NITWOG) is the youngest and largest tourism trade union in Nepal with more than 2,000 members. NITWOG was established in 2020 AD in COVID-19 pandemic periods. We are inclusively organized union covering the workers in the field of trekking, expedition, cultural tour, rafting, safari and all other adventure tourism activities in Nepal. NITWOG has been resisted under the trade union act 2049BS on department of labor and occupational safety under the ministry of labor, employment & social security.

NITWOG promotes and protects the rights of especially tourism workers in tourism sectors within and beyond the nation. Since inception, NITWOG has been leading discussion on workers issues and rigorously intensifying its lobby and advocacy campaigns to ensure the fundamental rights of tourism workers.

NITWOG strives for the democratic labor market and industrial development in the newly established republic in the nation where political, socio-economic and workers’ rights are guaranteed. Since decent work, social security of workers and democratic labor market are workers’ prioritized issues, NITWOG from the beginning, has been constantly striving for the reformation of Labor Law, and Social Security Bill. Furthermore, NITWOG has been actively lobbying for implementation of all Labor Laws, Social Security Act and ILO Core Conventions ratified by the Nepal government. Plus, it has been pressurizing concerned authorities/entities to implement minimum wage, labor standards including the workers’ representation in the decision making body.

Objective

  • Educate workers about trade union rights, human rights, collective bargaining strategy and national and int’l labor law and workplace skills.

  • Establish effective Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and Labor Inspection System (LIS) in the Nepalese tourism industry.

  • Promote Occupational Health and Safety in the workplace thereby by establishing social security and insurance policy for all tourism workers.

  • Improve labor legislation and national social security schemes through social dialogue and negotiation mechanisms with concerned parties.

  • Promote trade union activities at local, regional, national levels with awareness, skill development programs.

  • Enhance the capacity, skill and knowledge of all the workers through different training, orientation and seminar.
